Nothing More bring stacked bill to Silver Spring amongst Carnal trek

There ain't nothing like a good old-fashioned banger of a rock show to reset your mind. The average person may find solace in the peace of silence, but for me, there's nothing like blaring amps and roof-rattling riffs to put my soul at ease. Delivering the volume and the face-melting melodies were honestly one of the best bands I've had the pleasure of shooting [now twice] in Nothing More. Touring in support of their newest album, CARNAL, the bill for these shows is stacked, with opening sets from Post Profit, Set it Off, and From Ashes to New.

Though I missed Post Profit's first song, I had plenty of time to enjoy their set. There's a crisp yet raw grittiness in the way these guys play and sound, they're a throwback in the best sense, it's timeless. Far as I'm concerned, there always a place for real rock-'n'-roll.

From Ashes to New is one of the coolest looking bands I've ever shot, period. The aesthetic that every emo kid who's played in a rock band in the past 20 years strove for, these guys have got it, and they got the music to match. The energy is effortless, and it's real, and it's through the f***ing roof. And the light design was drop dead gorgeous for this set, quite literally bursting with color and I [and my camera] loved every second.

Set it Off have been around for ages it seems, but they never feel stale, and they never let me down. I have to admit that my first time seeing the real thing in person left me impressed. There's an explosiveness to these dudes, a powder keg kind of energy that feeds adrenaline from an endless tap; and with no better way to measure than the beauty of chaos in the mosh, I can say it was absolutely glorious.

For the second time, Nothing More has reminded me that they're one of the best rock bands out there, and that won't be changing anytime soon. Album after album is electric and overflowing with the purest form of energy; and every show sees Jonny, Mark, Daniel, and Ben turning those songs into absolute ceiling shakers. Not every act can say that the live product lives up [sonically] to the studio work, but Nothing More continues to do that and more, how’s that for a pun?

Bad jokes aside, I enjoyed every second of this set. Though they mixed in some of the classics, including “Jenny”, my favorite performances of the night definitely came from those off the new record [CARNAL]. Some of the highlights were:

·       FREEFALL

·       EXISTENTIAL DREAD

·       HOUSE ON SAND

·       STUCK

·       ANGEL SONG

All in all this was one hell of a rock show; every act brought the energy, and I know not a soul left the venue saying otherwise. Here’s to many more good times at the rock show.
