Ocean Alley Touch Down in Maryland
I’ll say this as many times as I need to, they make em different down under. Many of my favorite artists hail from the planet’s smallest continent, from Tash Sultana to AC/DC, to Eliza and the Delusionals and Gotye, the list rolls on. At the top of that list though, sits a band that I’ve been dying to see since the day I brought a camera into a show for the first time; that band is none other than Ocean Alley, and this past month I finally got the opportunity I’d been waiting for. Stopping into Maryland for a night at The Fillmore Silver Spring. Supporting on the night was groovy Boston rockers Juice.
This was a pretty damn good first impression for Juice; I went from never having heard these guys to wishing they’re set was a little longer. There’s an undeniable funk soul influence at the heart of what these guys do; it makes it hard not to move when they’re in the zone. I couldn’t list a single song but play me a few bars and I’m right back in it. Most importantly is these guys just look like they’re having fun up on that stage, and for a musician, there’s no better place to be. Juice has got the juice.
My beloved headliners did not let me down; everything I expected and more came to fruition as Ocean Alley blessed the stage. From “Touch Back Down”, to “Yellow Mellow” and all the slaps in between, I got the live treatment for so many of the songs that have soundtracked my life over the past two years. Straight up, these dudes play music and they do it damn well; no flash or distracting side shows, just sweet psychedelic melodies, lulling the soul to ease.
No amount of words can convey the feeling of listening to one of your favorite bands rock out before your very eyes; but that’s what photographs are for!. Till the lights go down again, keep rockin'.
