Broadside's hometown show marks a highlight of The Covers Only Tour
Last Saturday night, fans or pop punk and metalcore flocked to Our Last Night’s Covers Only Tour, featuring Swedish band Normandie and hometown heroes Broadside as opening acts. This concert was particularly special, not only because it marked the biggest date of the tour, playing to a sold out Hard Rock crowd, but also because it celebrated Broadside’s return to the stage in front of their friends, family, and a slew of new and old fans. The hometown connection added an extra layer of excitement, making the night a memorable one for both the band and the audience.
The venue was packed to capacity by the end of Normandie’s set, with the excitement palpable by the time Broadside took the stage. Led by charismatic frontman Ollie Baxxter, the band launched into their set with the upbeat, feel-good anthem “Heavenly." The crowd didn’t hesitate to join in singing and jumping along with the band. Broadside's set showcased their sonic range and storytelling capabilities, from high energy hits, like “Coffee Talk” and “Dazed and Confused,” to emotional ballads such as “Laps Around A Picture Frame.” Their deep cut and hidden gem of a single, “King Of Nothing,” was shown a bit of love this tour as well, a welcomed surprise for the die hard fans.
Broadside is a band that never disappoints, and their performance on the Covers Only Tour was no exception. Emotion in its purest form pours through Baxxter’s voice, facial expressions, and body language. Guitarist Domenic Reid and bassist Pat Diaz only added to the band’s impeccable stage presence, keeping the crowd enthralled with their synchronized jumps, spins, and high kicks. Diaz also filled in with backing vocals and screams, adding layers of depth to their performance. Together, Broadside created a charged performance, leaving a lasting impression on all 3,000 people in attendance.
The band closed out with “Foolish Believer,” a song that perfectly encapsulates their spirit and ethos. When the boys in Broadside exited the stage, the audience was left buzzing with exhilaration and anticipation for Our Last Night. Broadside set the bar high at their hometown show, delivering a performance that was both a celebration of their journey and a heartfelt thank you to their supporters. Overall, Broadside's set at the sold out Orlando show was a resounding success. For both the band and their fans, it was an unforgettable homecoming, marking a high point in the Covers Only Tour and solidifying Broadside's place as one of the most exciting bands in the scene today. We at Coffee & Shugar hope they keep the momentum going, eagerly awaiting announcements for late Summer and Fall tours.
